Resilience is one of the strongest suits of people who belong in this demographic because of oppression. However, a staggering <strong>transgender suicide rate<\/strong> is still apparent amidst <a href=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/2020\/09\/what-is-lgbttqqiaap\">the LGBTQ+ movements<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">According to the study of the American Academy of Pediatrics, LGBTQ youth take the biggest slice of the cake when it comes to the <strong>suicide rate of the transgender <\/strong>population, particularly, the transgender youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the Rate as of 2020?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">According to the study of Save.org, <a href=\"https:\/\/queeramnesty.ch\/docs\/AFSP-Williams-Suicide-Report-Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>41% of transgender<\/strong><\/a> adult respondents reported that they\u2019ve had <strong>suicide attempts<\/strong>. The same study found that <strong>61%<\/strong> of the people who were studied were also victims of physical assault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1245678_1920-edited.jpg\" alt=\"lonely trans woman\" class=\"wp-image-3777\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1245678_1920-edited.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1245678_1920-edited-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1245678_1920-edited-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1245678_1920-edited-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Meanwhile, from a study of the American Academy of Pediatrics of the <strong><a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pediatrics.aappublications.org\/content\/142\/4\/e20174218\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ek-link\">transgender youth suicide rate<\/a> <\/strong>spectrum back in 2018:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>more than <strong>50 percent<\/strong> of the transgender boys who\u2019ve responded have attempted suicide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>41.8 percent<\/strong> are non-binary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>29.9 percent<\/strong> of the transgender girls who\u2019ve responded admitted to <strong>experience suicide attempts<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Way back in the <em>SUICIDE THOUGHTS AND ATTEMPTS AMONG TRANSGENDER ADULTS Findings from the 2015 US Transgender Survey<\/em>, the largest performed, revealed that 81.7 percent of respondents reported ever seriously thinking about suicide in their lifetimes, while 48.3 percent had done so in the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">It\u2019s puzzling to see that even if the media\u2019s showing a lot of positivity when it comes to <strong>recognizing trans people<\/strong>, the reality is still grim and does not work towards these people\u2019s mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Suicide Rate among Transgender People is High and Common Causes of Transgender Suicide<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">There are <strong>many factors<\/strong> as to why a huge number of transgender people are at risk of suicide; some reasons are even closer to home because of\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lack of Family Support<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">A lot of parents are simply not able to <strong>support their transgender children<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">It can be because of a certain image that the parents want to keep. For instance, they will experience a lot of <strong>discrimination in school<\/strong> and their respective communities simply by <a href=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/2024\/11\/gender-expression-vs-gender-identity-the-nuances\">expressing their gender identity<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Gradual changes are happening around the world but these are still not enough to <strong>reduce the rate<\/strong> drastically. If a certain household is filled with <strong>homophobic and transphobic<\/strong> discussions, it\u2019s what a child will most probably be projecting towards their schoolmates who have gender dysphoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Isolation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Because transgender people don\u2019t identify with the s*x they were born with, they often feel <strong>isolated at a very young age<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">They are often forced to be part of groups. Being able to work is a basic human right and having been stripped of this can lead to the demise of an individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Having no friends, job, partner, and more can be crippling and no person deserves to live a life of lack like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Other causes of Transgender Suicide<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>exclusion\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no access to mental health care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lack of suicide ideation where they live<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>intolerance\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>acceptance\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>respect\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>inequality\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>[[SIGNUP]]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Current Situation of Transgender Suicides<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Although trans people are more accepted nowadays, the numbers are still not showing figures to provide relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">According to <a aria-label=\"new research from the Journal of the Endocrine Society (opens in a new tab)\" class=\"ek-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.endocrine.org\/news-and-advocacy\/news-room\/2020\/transgender-teens-have-high-rates-of-depression-suicidal-thoughts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new research from the Journal of the Endocrine Society<\/a>. <strong>Depression, suicidal thoughts, and self-injury<\/strong> are still common among American transgender teens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1848477_1920-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Sad trans woman\" class=\"wp-image-3779\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1848477_1920-edited.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1848477_1920-edited-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1848477_1920-edited-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1848477_1920-edited-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/07\/girl-1848477_1920-edited-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The silver lining is that hormone replacement therapy leads to significant improvements in lowering <strong>reported attempting suicide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-background\" style=\"background-color:#dcb6ff\"><em>\u201cOn a scale of 0 to 10, gender dysphoria dropped for affirmed males from 8.08 to 3.99 after starting treatment. For affirmed females, gender dysphoria fell from 7.87 before treatment to 2.96 after treatment began.\u201d <\/em>According to a report from the USNews.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">However positive this may sound, the suicide rate in 2020 is still at a staggering <strong>25.5%<\/strong> (MTF transgender individuals) to <strong>70%<\/strong> (FTM transgender individuals).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transgender Teens Who Overcame Suicide<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"><strong>15% of young lesbian<\/strong>, gay and bisexual people will try to take their life, compared to <strong>29% of young trans<\/strong> individuals according to a study done by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrevorproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"The Trevor Project (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">The Trevor Project<\/a>. From USA Today\u2019s article <em>\u201cYoung, transgender and fighting a years-long battle against suicidal thoughts\u201d<\/em> Shear Avory (20), a transgender woman, shared her story of how she\u2019s constantly battling suicide attempts as a transgender individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Her <strong>suicidal thoughts began as a kid<\/strong>. Shear&#8217;s mother had a substance abuse disorder. She was sent to conversion therapy at the age of 10 by her father; in order to \u201ccure\u201d her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-background has-medium-font-size\" style=\"background-color:#dcb6ff\"><em>\u201cI was constantly in a space of being unaccepted, unwelcomed and put down,\u201d <\/em>she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">She shared that the way she deals with her suicide attempts is simply by thinking of wanting to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"><em>&#8220;I&#8217;m able to feel immediately comfortable and vulnerable,&#8221;<\/em> Avory stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-background\" style=\"background-color:#dcb6ff\"><em>\u201cHealing is not a linear experience,\u201d <\/em>she continued.<em> \u201cFor so long I&#8217;ve been stuck in just wanting everything to disappear, from wanting the trauma to go away, for it to fade away from me, not to feel these feelings anymore.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">For now, Avory is focused on <strong>accepting the past<\/strong> and carving out a different future. Hope, they said, remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"><em>&#8220;I&#8217;m not going anywhere,&#8221;<\/em> Avory said. <em>&#8220;I can take pride in knowing that I&#8217;ve already made something of myself. &#8230; I&#8217;m alive.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Solutions for Transgender Suicide<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The only solution that would work is for <strong>having people be more accepting and understanding<\/strong> of the trans community.
