This event is chock-full of activities raising trans discrimination awareness and celebrating transgender individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Trans Day of Visibility?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This day highlights every aspect that\u2019s encompassing the life of transgender individuals. <strong>Discrimination against them is still rampant in today\u2019s world<\/strong>. People, no matter if they belong to the spectrum or not, should celebrate this important day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/What_is_Trans_Day_of_Visibility-1.jpg\" alt=\"Transgender Flag with TDOV\" class=\"wp-image-3341\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/What_is_Trans_Day_of_Visibility-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/What_is_Trans_Day_of_Visibility-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/What_is_Trans_Day_of_Visibility-1-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Doing so will not only be a fun feat, but will also be a step further in spreading <strong>the important messages of acceptance, love, and inclusion worldwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Origins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first TDOV or ITDOV <em>(International Transgender Day of Visibility)<\/em> was held on <strong>March 31, 2009<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/transstudent.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trans Student Educational Resources<\/a>, a U.S.-based youth advocacy organization, lead its first celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/Origins-edited.jpg\" alt=\"transgender flag\" class=\"wp-image-3332\" style=\"width:280px;height:374px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/Origins-edited.jpg 384w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/Origins-edited-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>TDOV was founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rachelcrandall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rachel Crandall<\/a>, a trans activist from Michigan. It was created due to the frustration of how <a href=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/2020\/11\/what-is-transgender-day-of-remembrance-tdor\">the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR)<\/a> was the only well-known day to recognize trans people. And stating that there\u2019s <strong>no day to celebrate trans people<\/strong> instead of mourning the ones who have passed away from murders and discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The goals of Trans Day of Visibility are very simple. It aims to spread awareness of the constant discrimination against trans people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why a lot of them are still rejected by companies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lack of inclusion from mainstream entities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The stigma that surrounds the lives of trans people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why some schools still reprimand trans students in expressing their gender.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The violence done against trans people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lack of career opportunities because of unfound inclusivity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The support they don\u2019t get but need from the government in terms of health care, protection, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Added to that, it also aims to inspire trans individuals by <strong>highlighting successful trans personalities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is Trans Day of Visibility?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>TDOV is exactly celebrated <strong>every March 31<sup>st<\/sup> of each year<\/strong>. It has been celebrated for 10 years in San Francisco. Except for the <strong>International Transgender Day of Visibility<\/strong> 2020, the first to be celebrated amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[[SIGNUP]]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TDOV Events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of pulling crowds to enjoy the festivities, last year\u2019s celebration was done online. The TDOV 2020 was presented by Openhouse SF, Gender Health SF\/Trans Pilot Project, SF Pride, Gilead, SF AIDS Foundation, SF TEAM, St James Infirmary and with the special participation of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ASL Translation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DJ Chico Ci<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Melanie \u201cNYA\u201d Ampon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Special Guests Freddy and Jayme<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clair Farley- Mayor\u2019s Office of Transgender Initiatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Joaquin Meza- Translife Program Coordinator, SF AIDS Foundation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Janelle Luster &#8211; Program Associate at the Transgender District<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The One and Only Rexy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2021<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This year marks <strong>the 12<sup>th<\/sup> annual Transgender Day of Visibility<\/strong>. It is quite special because we\u2019ve all made it through a year of newly coping with the deadly coronavirus. This year, the day aims to highlight the resilience and strength of trans and non-conforming individuals in spreading awareness of transgender rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"843\" height=\"474\" src=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/2021-edited.jpg\" alt=\"transgender and LGBT flags\" class=\"wp-image-3333\" style=\"width:840px;height:472px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/2021-edited.jpg 843w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/2021-edited-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2021\/03\/2021-edited-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 843px) 100vw, 843px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are <strong>plenty of events planned to celebrate TDOV 2021<\/strong>. If you\u2019re from California, feel free to join the limited seating offering of The University of California, Riverside. It will feature <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ROCassataMusic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ryana Cassata<\/a>, who\u2019s an LGBTQ activist, transgender singer-songwriter, who will perform and be the guest speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other online events are also available on Facebook. Just use the hashtag #TDOV2021 to get more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Human Rights Campaign<\/a>\u2019s (an LGBTQ advocacy group) president Alphonso David, made an encouraging statement about the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#dcb6ff\"><em>\u201cAs we celebrate [TDOV], we must never forget those who still feel invisible even in their own communities and who may live every day with fear of discrimination or violence, and we must resolve to fight for a world where every transgender and non-binary person is respected and protected\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2022<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2022 edition of TDOV marks the 13<sup>th<\/sup> annual awareness day in celebration of trans and gender-nonconforming people\u2019s accomplishments. Like the previous editions, its aim is to raise awareness of how to achieve trans justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to GLSEN.org, below are the ways to participate in TDOV 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>For Educators,<\/strong> use their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glsen.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Gender%20Terminology%20Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gender terminology discussion guide<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glsen.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Gender%20Terminology%20Visual.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accompanying visual<\/a>, plus our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glsen.org\/sites\/default\/files\/GLSEN%20Pronouns%20Resource.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pronoun resource<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For Students,<\/strong> check out their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glsen.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Know%20Your%20Rights_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Know Your Rights guide<\/a> to learn about your rights protected in schools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GSA Members and Advisors,<\/strong> check their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glsen.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Making%20Your%20Club%20Inclusive%20of%20Transgender%20and%20Gender%20Nonconforming%20Students.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">guide on making student clubs inclusive<\/a> of trans and gender-nonconforming students, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glsen.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Authenticity%20and%20the%20Right%20to%20Tell%20Trans%20Narratives.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this GSA activity<\/a> on telling trans narratives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For Advocates,<\/strong> use their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glsen.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Trans%20Model%20Policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trans model policy<\/a> in your advocacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can We Celebrate TDOV?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of the restrictions imposed due to <strong>the COVID-19 pandemic<\/strong>, the safest way you can participate in TDOV2021 is by joining <strong>online events<\/strong>. This day is observed in the US, Ireland, Scotland, and other countries across the world. Don\u2019t forget to use the hashtags #transgender #tdov #tdov2021<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide your friends shareable articles about the day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have conversations with people who matter to you and educate them about <a href=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/2020\/08\/transgender-issues-you-must-know\">trans-oriented issues<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate with your trans colleagues and talk about your experiences as a trans individual in the company.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn about <a href=\"https:\/\/mytransgenderdate.com\/blog\/2020\/12\/trans-rights-around-the-world\">the rights that trans people still don\u2019t have<\/a> and fight for them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our initiative<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here at My Transgender Date, we believe that part of what makes trans women visible amidst the backlash is their resiliency.
