Alexandra was born on March 28, 1962, into a culturally rich and diverse family, with European American, African American, and Native American ancestry. Her father, a music teacher and the musical director for the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, introduced her to the world of theater at a young age.

This early exposure to the arts, assisting backstage with legends like Carol Burnett and Yul Brynner, ignited her passion for performance. Her portrayal of Davina in Amazon’s “Transparent” further solidified her status as a trailblazer for transgender representation in media. Alexandra’s career spans across numerous TV shows where she often played transgender characters, including “ER“, “Eli Stone“, “How to Get Away with Murder“, “Grey’s Anatomy“, and “The Conners.”

Event Celebrating Alexandra Billings at LGBT Center

The celebration, held on April of 2023, attracted over 150 attendees to the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center courtyard.

The evening featured a special performance of Tomlin’s The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe: Revisited by the School of Dramatic Arts at the center’s Renberg Theatre.
